The Level 3 Award in Preparing to Work in Home Based Childcare has been developed in collaboration with the Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years (PACEY).

This qualification is aimed at those wishing to set up their own childminding business as a registered childminder or wishing to work in a home-based setting.

Delivery of this course includes virtual teaching sessions with one of our qualified assessors who will support your through your qualification.

Who is it suitable for?

This qualification prepares learners to set up a home based childcare setting as a registered childminder. 

It is suitable for learners who wishing to work as registered childminders, childminding assistants or other home child carers (e.g. nannies, au pairs).

How is this qualification structured?

In order to achieve the Level 3 Award, learners must achieve 6 credits in total.

5 credits from the mandatory unit ‘Preparing to work as a home-based childcarer’ and a 1 credit from the ‘Preparing to set up a home-based childcare business’ unit.

How is it assessed?

This qualification will be internally assessed. Types of assessment include a portfolio of evidence, written assignments or a task.

Do you need to be working to enrol on this qualification?

This is a knowledge based qualification, therefore it can be completed without a placement. 

What are the entry requirements?

Learners should be at least 16 years of age and meet the entry criteria below:

  • To be in a position to carry out three to four hours of study per week
  • To have the appropriate level of literacy
  • To have regular access to a computer which will allow you to access the online portfolio system
  • To be able to surf the internet, send and receive emails with attachments, complete written work using a computer (with Microsoft Word) and be generally IT literate.
How long will it take?

Approximately 4-6 months. Learners will be enrolled for 6 months.

How much does it cost?

The course fee is £395, this includes the Early Years 91ɫƵ childminding membership for 12 months from enrolment. 

How will the training be delivered?

This course is delivered via a blend of virtual teaching sessions, online learning and written tasks. 

You will be supported by an assessor who will deliver the teaching sessions, set tasks, mark and feedback on your work. It is important that you meet the deadlines set by your assessor in order to complete within the allocated time frame.

Recommendations

This award is an ideal introduction to childminding, however we would advise you to contact your Local Authority and  to clarify what is required in your local area in the way of qualification and training, should you be intending on setting up a home-based childminding service.
